Green & Gold
A Horror Poem - Published in Gut Punch Literary Journal
Her fist squeezes,
A green dinosaur.
Fraying threads;
Bursting seams.
Eyes darting, searching,
Spongy soft duff,
For damp wet earth;
Her eyes burning;
The trail,
It was here.
Her focus shrinks,
As the forest expands.
A startling crack
Her tiny foot bursting
Through rot.
Ancient musk
sickly sweet scent.
Throat chokes closed.
She runs.
Bark scraping jeans.
Rapid heartbeats,
Wet pulsing in her ears.
The forest goes still.
Her muscles lock.
Golden eyes glisten,
Between the rocks.
Too late to scream.
The green dinosaur slips,
Through slack fingers;
Landing at her feet.
